Bill of Rights Doomed...Again?
The fortunes of the Bill of Rights are married to the fortunes of its main cheerleader, Dominic Raab.
On that basis one might have thought that the Bill of Rights has a good chance of getting through Parliament and making it into law. After all, not only is Raab the Secretary of State for Justice but he is also the Deputy Prime Minister. As a key member of the cabinet you would be tempted to think that he has a better chance of pushing his pet project through than any of his colleagues.
However The Times reported yesterday that the Bill is to potentially be shelved by Rishi Sunak as priority is given to more pressing issues such as the Channel migrant crisis. The fact that Raab is being investigated for bullying is likely another factor that the government is taking into consideration here. If the Justice Secretary is ultimately force to resign then it is hard to imagine a successor having the same drive to push the legislation through.
