In the context of an ordinary conflict, the Freedom Flotilla with Greta Thunberg on board would have had little problem delivering humanitarian aid to a war zone.

Of course, this is no ordinary conflict.

Israel continues to use starvation as a weapon of war. It is one of many reasons why the country faces accusations of genocide before the International Court of Justice.

That case remains pending, but in the meantime there is an interesting legal debate to be had surrounding Israel's actions in respect of this aid boat, the Madleen.

Israel argues that it has acted within the bounds of international law, but there is a strong argument that the military operation amounts to piracy and kidnapping.

The first question is where the boat was seized by Israeli authorities.
