If a letter arrives and you aren't there to receive it, has it been delivered?
There is a famous aphorism that poses the question 'If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?'
The point is to question the nature of your reality: Is sound simply a human concept imposed on the world?
Philosophy aside this week's podcast asks the legal equivalent of this question: 'If a letter arrives and you aren't there to receive it, has it been delivered?'
Fortunately the Supreme Court is able to give us a concrete answer and it is a good job that they can as the answer has a significant impact on the pension that the respondent, Mrs Haywood, is able to claim.
