Leveson 2.0?
The original Leveson Inquiry in 2011 was an attempt to examine ethics amongst the British print media and propose reforms in the wake of the News International phone hacking scandal. The inquiry is often remembered for the shocking testimony from celebrities like Steve Coogan and Hugh Grant but it was actually a bit of a failure in the end.
The main recommendation of the report was to replace the Press Complaints Commission with a stronger, independent body that would be able to impose fines and other sanctions. That recommendation was rejected by then-prime minister David Cameron and the impetus for change mostly fizzled.
Now, as reported by Daniel Sandford for the BBC, there might be a renewed push for press reform.
