In a recent interview with Harry Cole from The Sun newspaper, the former prime minister Liz Truss argued that the Supreme Court should be scrapped.
It is all quite difficult to take seriously.
Cole, a hack who was cucked by Boris Johnson, was attempting to have a serious political conversation with Liz Truss, a prime minister who lasted less time than a lettuce, for a publication that makes a loss for Rupert Murdoch.
This is all part of Truss’ attempt to establish a successful career amongst ‘deep state’ conspiracy theorists following her short stint in Downing Street. She has appeared alongside Steve Bannon and blames everyone from civil servants to trans activists of sabotaging her premiership.
Her most recent media appearances (including the one alongside Cole) are part of an effort to promote her book that is optimistically titled: Ten Years to Save the West.
Truss’ grand plan to rescue civilisation is, in fact, a scattershot of dog whistles and policies cribbed from Donald Trump.
As you might expect, there is very little detail but her plans for the Supreme Court would be to simply reinstate the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords.
It is a strange plan because the creation of the Supreme Court was a largely symbolic move. The reform did not change anything about the working of the courts in this country but simply made it clear that there was a separation between the legislative and judicial branches of government.
It seems that Truss thinks that if the top court is brought back closer to government in a physical sense (in this case, approximately 200 yards across Parliament Square) then it would be more likely to do the government’s bidding and not oppose policies like the controversial Rwanda scheme.
This is, of course, pure fantasy.
The personnel of the court would not change and nor would the judicial function. Whether it is the Supreme Court or the House of Lords, the judges would make decisions based on the facts and in accordance with the law no matter what building they are in.
Truss’ complete lack of comprehension harks back to a time when she struggled to establish herself as the Secretary of State for Justice under Theresa May. As a non-lawyer, she faced an uphill struggle from day one but a series of mistakes only ended up making things all the more difficult.
In November 2016, the Daily Mail published its infamous “Enemies of the People” headline and Truss failed to properly defend the independence of the judiciary at that time as well.
Liz Truss’ entire political career can be characterised by charlatanism and opportunism in equal measure. It was only when she got to the very top that she was properly exposed but at least this means that now her ideas can be met with the ridicule that they deserve.
No podcast again this week as we are still caught up with the latest judgments from the Supreme Court.
There is also unlikely to be an episode next week as well because I will be heading down to Wembley this weekend to see the mighty Coventry City play in the FA Cup.
Play up Sky Blues!

Is the projected plan to scrap the supreme court and revert to the house of lords which would be manipulated by the Gov . Effectively giving absolute power to the executive.
I saw Liz Truss interviewed on Spectator u tube interview about this and her new book. She was explaining that democratic means to create policy was now virtually impossible as a result of quangos and the civil service bureaucracy. If that is the case, and Conservative policies have not been carried out.
Who may be running this country?
