SRA on the Rocks
There is a growing backlash within the legal profession against the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
The SRA is tasked with the important job of protecting the public by ensuring that solicitors meet a high standard and are held accountable when they fail to do so.
However, many now feel that the authority has grown overzealous in its application of the rules and that this is having a negative impact on the provision of legal services within England and Wales.
More fuel was added to that fire this week when a high profile solicitor and legal commentator, Kerry Underwood, announced that he would no longer be practising law in the UK following a decision by the SRA to fine his firm more than £5,000.
